Which Plain Yogurts are Not Ultra-Processed?

For this list I am only looking at plain yogurt. I have not included any Greek-style yogurts. I have also excluded any flavored yogurts, included vanilla yogurts. 

Plain yogurts are great because they are so versatile, and many of them are not UPF. You can flavor them by adding your own honey, fruit, or jelly. It go well with muesli or you can add herbs and spices to turn it into a dip for vegetables.

If there is a particular yogurt that you like, if it is made from live active cultures you can use it to make more of your own yogurt as well.

Selecting which products are UPF and which are not is an inexact process. Yogurt should have cultures listed as an ingredient. I would consider any yogurt that does not have cultures to be UPF. The inverse is not necessarily true though, because they seem to be adding cultures to UPF yogurts as well to make them look better.

For the purposes of this list I included any yogurt product that included pectin as a UPF product. Pectin is a soluble fiber that naturally occurs in fruits such as apricots. It is an ingredient that has traditionally been used to make jams and jellies set up.

Ordinarily, I would not say that pectin makes something an ultra-processed food. However I have elected to include anything with pectin as UPF because in yogurt because here the pectin is being used as a thickener. The cultures in the yogurt should be what thickens the yogurt, not an added thickener like pectin.

In many other dairy products the low-fat version of products is more likely to be UPF or to contain many more additives. This is not true with yogurt. Generally with yogurt it is just an indication of whether it is made from whole milk or skim milk.
